What are the main differences between Stott Pilates® and other forms of Pilates?

STOTT Pilates® is a contemporary intelligent movement method founded by Moira Merrithew, a dancer trained by Romana Kryzanowska, one of the first generation of followers of Joseph Pilates, the so-called elders. Moira's maiden name is Stott, hence the name STOTT Pilates®.

In collaboration with a team of (para)medics, fitness and sports professionals, she has further developed the authentic method into the current modern training method: the STOTT pilates® method.

In STOTT pilates® the exercises are designed to maintain or restore the natural curves of the spine and to balance or restore the muscles surrounding the attachments.

STOTT pilates® focuses on the following five basic principles: Breathing, pelvic positioning, rib cage positioning, shoulder blade movement, head positioning, and the cervical spine.

Once you have learned the basic principles, you can move without tension and thus build strength and flexibility.

The combination of modern knowledge from the movement sciences and authentic principles makes STOTT pilates® one of the safest and most efficient pilates methods.

You're seeing more and more different styles of Pilates. As with many professions, training and continuing education are crucial. Working in small groups with personal guidance is also a priority at STOTT Pilates®. If you're looking to get started, first take a good look at the classes offered. Pilates taught in, for example, a gym is often not the same as STOTT Pilates® classes.
